Powerline replacement program in North Warrandyte now complete

Significant work by AusNet Services to improve the safety of the electricity network across North Warrandyte has been completed.

The North Warrandyte Powerline Replacement Fund works involved replacing or undergrounding large sections of the power network in Research-Warrandyte Road and Kangaroo Ground Warrandyte Road.

Nine kilometres of bare wire was replaced with safer, covered cables, with another five kilometres of overhead powerlines placed underground.

The project, which began mid last year, was funded by the State Government.

Powerline Replacement Fund project manager Aaron McArrich said AusNet Services was continually improving the safety of the electricity network as part of its Powerline Bushfire Safety Program.

“This work is aimed at reducing bushfire risk and improving power supply reliability in North Warrandyte,” Mr McArrich said.

“While some customers did experience planned interruptions to their power supply, we tried to minimise the impact to the community during this important safety work.

“Thank you to the community for their patience and understanding during the works.”

AusNet Services is conducting extensive work across its electricity network to improve safety and reduce the risk of powerline-related bushfires.

Other work includes more frequent inspections and maintenance across assets, more extensive vegetation management and clearing programs and the installation of new technology on powerlines in selected high bushfire risk areas.
